The Power of Consistency

open signIf you visit a business and nine times out of 10 it’s closed, you stop dropping by and more likely you look for other businesses that meet your needs. The same is true of new media channels. If you visit someone’s blog and they haven’t updated it in two months, you stop checking in. Pure and simple.

Consistency is the mother of reliability. The success of any Web project, whether a personal blog or a corporate YouTube channel, depends heavily on consistency, both in the quality of the content as well as in the frequency of updates.

Here are a few tips to ensure your channels stay fresh:

  • Make a routine of posting: Set aside a specific time or times each day (or week, depending on your goals) to update your sites and social networks.
  • Vary the length of each each post: It’s ok to post something brief from time to time. Even if it lacks the detail of some of your other posts, at least your letting your audience know that you’re still alive.
  • Ask for support: If you run headlong into a busy week, don’t be afraid to ask others to help contribute or support your efforts in other ways.
  • Tune in: Reading a lot of blogs, watching others’ videos and following or “friending” interesting people is a great way to keep your ideas fresh and inspire your own content. More ideas equals more things on which to comment.

No matter what that channel, consistency is key to success. Make sure you keep your virtual business open as often as possible so that when people drop by they can count on your being there to inspire them.

What are you doing to keep your Web channels consistent?

Kevin,

This advice is spot on! It’s the third arm in the Tippingpoint Labs trinity of valuable content:

* High quality
* Relevant
* Frequent

Web marketing strategies focused on content distribution that meets these criteria, tend to be successful.

Keep up the awesome insight!

Brad
