Thanksgiving Edition: Give Thanks to Your Community

by Kevin on November 25, 2009

Thanksgiving TurkeyOn the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday,  it’s fitting to acknowledge all of the people who have contributed to and provided a strong foundation for our success. In fact, there have been a number of people who have supported me along the way, ranging from my family and friends to co-workers and others. They have each provided advice, guidance and moral support, and they have each been exceptional role models.

In his book, Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell writes:

People don’t rise from nothing. We do owe something to our parentage and patronage.

No one is self made and our good ideas seldom come to fruition without the support of our community, so it’s important to let these people know how grateful we are.

The same principle applies to business. We must take time to thank our customers and, in a more general sense, our audience. Let’s not wait until a National holiday to thank those people who, on a daily basis, tune in and support our efforts. And when we thank them, let’s make sure our words are as genuine and as personal as possible.

What are you doing to thank your community of supporters?
