Have you ever met anyone who enjoys patronizing responses to their questions or concerns? We hate it when it feels like someone is underestimating our knowledge, intelligence or expertise, and the same goes for bloggers, reporters and customers.
Before responding to anyone in person or online, it is always best to take a moment and ask yourself: Does it sound like I’m talking down to my audience? If there is even the slightest doubt, you should consider an alternative approach.
This rule applies to all communication, from email correspondence to advertising. No matter what, make sure you always show respect to your audience because showing respect is the best way to maintain strong relationships and avoid embarrassing gaffes that often show up online and live there forever.
Unfortunately, some folks learn the hard way.
